Is often a question raised by aspiring individuals/ companies that want to enter into the industry/ new markets or just simply planning to differentiate oneself from another. This could be in the form of a logo, picture, tagline, service, product, brand, identity.
From my personal experience, I can highlight 3 ways that I am applying to differentiate myself from my competitors. Here is how I add a personal construct and a reverse engineering tactic in differentiation:
Methodology of Explaining
How many of you agree that we are often mistaken for our intent? Me, I feel I have been mistaken a lot of times. What is the root issue then? Well, have you thought about the method of explaining what you know, rather than just stating it out? Our methodology about our thought pattern is largely influenced by our experience, set of beliefs, fundamental understanding of the world around us.
How then shall I showcase my methodology of explaining my thought process? Here are some questions to guide oneself; How do you simplify a problem? What are some ‘acronyms’ or visual representation to develop a clear portrayal about a subject? I like the MECE (Mutually Exclusive Collectively Exhaustive) approach to explaining. (We can discuss further)
Perceived Value vs Worth
Everyday, we are flooded with data, insights, metrics that have put a worth on business/ personal growth. There is a worth to our abilities, but how often do we put value to ourselves? An example would be my worth in this Linkedin Publishing Space, as I write an article of say 1,000 words, the value of it may be $x put to the content and delivery. But the value of this post is determined by how I accentuate the importance of the content, to whom this content is suited for and the take home message. The value $x will be more than its worth when I reverse engineer the process. Looking to create self “value” starts by moving away from the “worth” others put on us.
Credibility, competence, communication helps to build the Relationship Quotient. We often get a good mix of personal IQ & EQ, but many a times, an individual is heard but not understood as he/she may not have connected with another individual to build on that trust, that positive perception of yourself. I find this intriguing as we are made up of microcosms of life that orbit and interchangeably interact at so many layers at so many interactions verbal, non verbal etc. How then do we differentiate ourselves when we are so similar yet so different? A thought to keep with you through the rest of the week.
