My first visit to SP PACE Academy left me with a deeper understanding about their offerings and to maximise the learning capabilities through this platform under Singapore Polytechnic.
SP PACE Academy is a multi-disciplinary Continuing Education and Training (CET) Academy, committed to offer a variety of relevant courses for adult learners to enhance their employability. It is a platform to transform adult learners (PMETs) through innovative educational experiences to enhance their employability. It is more than just going back to school or learning but selecting the specific skill sets you wish to unlock to better your current experiences. It is an avenue to upgrade yourself and to prepare for a future workforce that might not be in the current job market, you are preparing for a job of the future by value adding and increasing your wealth of knowledge.
I grew up in an environment pretty much outdoors, as a kid, I was hardly at my desk doing my work or even completing assignments, I was usually learning and adapting slower than my peers as focus, concentration and probably the passion to dive into my books and academics was not the force to drive me to do well. I did not like the conventional way of learning where I am studying the basics of what might be important, but it may not necessarily interest me.
When it was time to select an undergraduate course, I told my parents I wanted to study Sports Science Management as I knew I was fixated on grooming myself up in the sporting industry. Little did I know, that this passion led me to what I am pursuing now, my start-up in sports data analytics. For the past 2 years, I would say the number of books that I have read and the amount of information and knowledge that I am constantly feeding myself is more than the past 20+ years combined. I began to love reading, I began to enjoy learning new things about the world around me. Self-learning, self-improvement has been a driving force that expands my passion and drive in life.
It is necessary to adapt and learn as you grow in the work force as change is the only constant. Coming to contrary of a nationalistic change in the digital economy, we are only as stable as the global economy where our individual skills stand. The way to up skill is to uptake new methods of learning, gaining and reinventing. I like the SkillsFuture initiative in Singapore as it is a national movement to enable all Singaporeans to develop to their fullest potential, as well as realise their aspirations by taking advantage of a wide range of opportunities.
To align with the SkillsFuture initiative, SP PACE Academy offers a bouquet of courses.
Take on the self-improvement initiatives via SkillsFuture Credit (self-sponsored individuals) to enhance current job, improve time management and multi-tasking skills and for retirees to re-enter workforce or to simply keep oneself engaged.
All Singaporeans aged 25 and above can use their $500 SkillsFuture Credit from the government to pay for a wide range of approved skills-related courses. Visit the SkillsFuture Credit website (www.skillsfuture.sg/credit) to choose from the courses available on the SkillsFuture Credit course directory.
There are a suite of 176 SkillsFuture Credit (SFC) courses available at SP PACE Academy.

If you are looking to find workplace oriented programmes here’s one of them that will help you with career advancement or switch to other functional roles mid-career to survive redundancy as job requirements are evolving fast in the rapidly changing Singaporean economy – Professional Conversion Programme (PCPs).
PCPs help job seekers reskill and acquire the necessary knowledge and competencies to take on new jobs. Some programmes include a work attachment, which enables individuals to acquire real experience in the field. This enhances the employability of job seekers such as mid-career individuals and gives them the necessary competencies to take on new jobs with greater confidence.
In simpler words, the PCP helps Singaporeans who wish to switch to a different industry. It provides customised training for very specific roles in identified sectors, such as systems integrations, early childhood education, social work, and game design.
Visit here for list of PCPs at SP PACE Academy with on-the-job training with top companies in the respective industry.
No matter where you are in life – schooling years, early career, mid-career or silver years – you will find a variety of resources to help you attain mastery of skills. Skills mastery is more than having the right paper qualifications and being good at what you do currently; it is a mindset of continually striving towards greater excellence through knowledge, application and experience.
Everyone is part of Singapore’s SkillsFuture journey. The choices you make or guide others to make in education, jobs or careers should lead to opportunities to maximise one’s potential and develop a mastery of skills. To meet challenges and achieve success, chart your own paths through lifelong learning and skills mastery. Every Singaporean, every job, at every stage of life, counts.
